Maintenance

A Clearer View Makes Better Maintenance Possible

Good maintenance starts with understanding the condition of your buildings. Roofs can be one of the hardest parts of that picture to see clearly: a view from the ground only shows so much, while scaffolding adds time, cost and disruption before the work is understood.

Government and professional guidance emphasises good condition information, regular inspection and planned rather than reactive maintenance.

Compared with erecting scaffolding simply to inspect a roof, drone surveys are faster, safer and far less expensive. That makes regular checks practical. Your team can identify visible problems earlier, plan repairs before they become more costly, and decide where further access is actually needed.

The technology matters because it changes the economics of getting good evidence.

Drone surveys make detailed roof inspection practical and affordable. Our survey platform makes that evidence easier to organise, review and use across a property portfolio or maintenance programme.

In practice

Drone Surveys Are Becoming Part of How Property Teams Work

Councils, housing providers and property teams are already using drones to understand difficult-to-access areas, target repairs and decide where more expensive access is actually needed. We see the same shift in our own work across councils and large property portfolios.

What we see in our own work

Roof Hawk already supports councils and major property portfolios with repeat drone inspection, from individual complex buildings to programmes covering hundreds of properties.

Why Roof Hawk

Better Roof Evidence, Without the Usual Access Cost and Risk

  • Quality

    Detailed, usable imagery

Carefully filmed 4K video and still images, with close detail and wider views that make each part of the roof easy to follow.

  • Value

    Practical for regular use

Drone capture can avoid putting up access simply to get an initial view. Lower per-property programme rates make regular inspection practical across a portfolio, not just on the most urgent roofs.

  • Relationship

A service shaped around your team

We listen to how you use the imagery and adapt the service around your team, so repeat instructions are straightforward.

Useful evidence

One Clear Record, Shared Across the Team

Surveyors, property teams and contractors can work from the same roof imagery to assess condition, discuss repairs and explain recommendations to clients, colleagues or a board.

We can film ahead of a surveyor’s visit, so more time goes into assessment rather than gaining a view. Files are organised by property, ready to download, share and revisit.

With repeat surveys, that record builds over time, giving your team a clear history of each property and making it easier to compare condition, revisit previous issues and see what has changed.

Our survey platform keeps that evidence organised by property, so the record remains easy to find, review and use across your portfolio.

The process

From Planning to Delivery, We Take Care of the Drone Survey

  1. 01

    Tell Us Your Objectives

Send an address, a property list or sample sites, together with what you need to achieve and your timing. We’ll confirm the roof areas to cover, the outputs and the cost.

  2. 02

    We Plan and Survey

We handle the flight planning, restricted-airspace checks, required permissions and site coordination. Our CAA-qualified pilots then capture the agreed roof areas around your priorities.

  3. 03

    Your Team Gets the Evidence

You receive video and still images organised by property, ready to view, download and share. Evidence can be delivered through the Roof Hawk platform or in a structured format that fits your own systems and workflow, with delivery planned around your survey, maintenance or programme timetable.

  4. 04

    We Listen, Learn and Improve

After an initial survey or programme batch, we ask what worked and what could work better. We use that feedback to refine the capture, delivery and workflow for the next cycle.

Ongoing investment in our drone technology and survey platform helps us keep improving quality and cost efficiency over time.

Experience

From Routine Housing Stock to Complex Buildings

We’ve completed thousands of drone roof surveys, from regular housing inspections to the Houses of Parliament. These include programmes covering more than 500 properties across Soho, Chinatown and Covent Garden.

Our CAA-qualified pilots use professional drones and cameras selected for each site. We plan around occupied buildings, brief the pilot on your priorities and keep your team informed. When we work on your behalf, we represent your team professionally.

Historic & complex buildings

We’re proud that much of our work comes from repeat customers. We put the same care into communication and delivery as we do into the quality of the imagery.

Programme pricing

Simple to Budget. Even More Affordable at Volume.

We quote for each building or programme, with lower per-survey rates at volume and agreed pricing bands for repeat work. We’ll work with you to structure the pricing so the economics make sense across your programme. Share a first address or a few sample sites and we’ll outline the cost and approach.

London and UK-Wide Programmes

We work across London and support commercial programmes throughout the UK. For larger portfolios, we organise delivery around your locations and programme timetable.

Questions

Before You Arrange a Commercial Survey

Can we start with a single property?

Yes. You don’t need a whole programme to get started. An individual building or a small batch gives your team a chance to see the detail and how we work before arranging further surveys.

Can you work through our surveyor, consultant or main contractor?

Yes. We regularly work as a specialist partner within wider instructions, capturing the roof and building areas needed for the project. Send the sites, objectives and timetable and we can work around your existing team and programme.

Drone roof surveys for surveyors

What regulatory requirements do you take care of?

Once you instruct us, we take care of the drone operation. Our pilots are CAA qualified, we carry public liability insurance, and we manage the flight planning, risk assessment, airspace checks, required permissions and operational paperwork. If we need anything from your team, such as site access, an induction or a local contact, we agree it in advance.

Can you survey properties in restricted airspace?

Yes. We regularly work in complex London airspace and handle the permissions required for the location. A number of areas sit within restricted flight zones that require additional permission from National Air Traffic Services (NATS). We arrange that too; where NATS permission is required, it typically adds a seven-day wait.

How quickly can you mobilise for a project or programme?

For urgent London work, we can often mobilise a pilot within 24 hours, subject to weather, site access and flight permissions. For larger programmes, we can organise work across multiple sites in short periods and plan delivery around your survey, maintenance or project timetable.

How can the imagery support planned maintenance?

Our customers, from surveyors and councils to property and estates teams, use clear visual evidence to understand roof condition, prioritise repairs and decide where further investigation or access is needed. Repeat surveys also create a record that can be revisited over time, supporting maintenance planning and budgeting across a portfolio.

Does anyone from our team need to attend?

Usually not, although your team is very welcome to attend and brief the pilot on site. Our pilots are experienced at working sensitively around residents, staff and members of the public, and we regularly receive positive feedback about their communication on site.
